5 Signs Your Car Battery is Failing

A dead car battery never happens at a convenient time. Fortunately, your vehicle will usually give you warning signs weeks before the battery completely fails. Here are 5 signs you should look out for:

1. Slow Engine Crank

When you turn the key (or push the start button), does the engine take longer than normal to turn over? If it sounds sluggish or labored, your battery is struggling to provide enough cranking power.

2. Dim Headlights

If your battery is failing, it won't be able to fully power your vehicle's electrical components. If your headlights look dim and yellow instead of bright and white—especially when the car is idling—your battery is likely weak.

3. Swollen Battery Case

Pop the hood and look at the physical battery. If the sides are bulging or swollen, extreme heat has caused the battery casing to warp. A swollen battery is dangerous and needs immediate replacement.
